Qualcomm: collaborating with Meta in virtual reality
(CercleFinance.com) - Qualcomm announced on Friday that it has signed a multi-year strategic agreement with Meta to develop chips for Meta Quest, the social networking company's virtual reality platform.
The mobile chipmaker said it plans to deepen its technical collaboration with its engineering and product development partner to build tools based on its Snapdragon XR technology that are entirely dedicated to the metaverse.
Qualcomm says it has been working with Meta on virtual reality issues for seven years, including the Meta Quest 2 headset, Meta's most advanced VR system to date.
This announcement was made by Qualcomm's CEO Cristiano Amon and Meta's co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the IFA trade fair in Berlin.
Qualcomm shares actually closed down over 1% on Friday, while Meta shares dropped over 3% to 160 dollars, a far cry from their heady heights of over 375 dollars a year ago.
