Praxair: EU clears merger with Linde - subject to conditions
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission cleared on Tuesday German industrial gas supplier Linde to proceed with its merger with US rival Praxair, subject to many divestitures.
Following an in-depth examination of the case, Brussels has concluded that the planned merger between both groups, as initially notified, would have significantly reduced competition in a number of markets of the European Economic Area (EEA).
In response to these fears, Praxair and Linde have offered to sell to the right buyer all of Praxair's gas businesses in the EEA, along with the transfer of Praxair's stake in SIAD and the sale of additional helium supply contracts.
