Pfizer: collaboration in antibiotic resistance
(CercleFinance.com) - Pfizer announced on Wednesday that it has signed a collaboration agreement with Wellcome, a politically and financially independent foundation specializing in health science and research.
Both partners say they plan to launch a program to monitor data on antibiotic resistance in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi and Uganda, countries that are particularly affected by infectious diseases but where such data is sorely lacking.
According to recent estimates, the death rate from antibiotic resistance - i.e. the ability of a microorganism to resist the effects of antibiotics - could be ten times higher in Africa than in North America and Europe by 2050.
