Pfizer: two hematology drugs get EU approval

(CercleFinance.com) - Pfizer said on Friday that two of its hematology drugs have received approval from European health authorities.

The US drugmaker said Mylotarg has been granted a positive opinion for the treatment of previously untreated acute myeloid leukemia in combination with chemotherapy.

Separately, Bosulif has been granted approval for the treatment of newly diagnosed Ph+ chronic myelogenous leukemia.

However, the committee for medicinal products for human use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended against expanding use of Sutent to include treatment of patients at a high risk of recurrent renal cell carcinoma following surgery.

Pfizer also announced today the election of chief operating officer Albert Bourla to its board of directors, effective immediately.
