PepsiCo: profit and revenue up in Q3

(CercleFinance.com) - PepsiCo reported a 16% rise in quarterly profit on Tuesday, helped by growth and cost reductions in emerging markets.

The company, which makes Tropicana juice, Lays potato crisps and Quaker cereals, earned 2.5 billion dollars, or 1.75 dollar per share, in its third quarter.

That compares with 2.1 billion dollars, or 1.49 dollar a share, a year ago.

Excluding the impact of foreign exchange translation, core constant currency earnings per share (EPS) rose by 9%.

Revenue rose 1.5% to 16.5 billion dollars.

Organic revenue, which excludes the impacts of foreign exchange translation and acquisitions, structural and other changes, grew 4.9%.

PepsiCo maintained most of its forecasts, continuing to expect core constant currency EPS growth of 9%.

The shares were down 1.4% in pre-market trading today, suggesting that the share of the soft drinks giant will begin trading in the red.
