Moderna: FDA committee supports Covid booster jab
(CercleFinance.com) - Moderna said last night that the US Food and Drug Administration's Vaccines and Related Biologics Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) recommended that the FDA approve the booster dose (50 mcg) of the company's Covid vaccine under emergency use authorization for people 65 years and older, as well as for people 18-64 years old who are exposed to the virus or who are at risk of developing severe forms of Covid.
The vote was unanimous, with 19 VRBPAC members in favour of approval, a decision welcomed by Stéphane Bancel, the laboratory's chief executive, who said he looks forward to making the booster dose available to people in the US.
Moderna estimates that the positive vote and subsequent approval could result in up to 1 billion additional doses being available for distribution in 2022.
