Moderna: EMA recommends an additional dose

(CercleFinance.com) - The EMA's Committee for Human Medicinal Products (CHMP) has concluded that an additional dose of the COVID-19 vaccines Comirnaty (BioNTech/Pfizer) and Spikevax (Moderna) can be given to people with severely compromised immune systems at least 28 days after their second dose.

The recommendation comes after studies showed that an additional dose of these vaccines increased the ability to produce antibodies against the virus that causes COVID-19 in organ transplant patients with weakened immune systems.

Although there is no direct evidence that the ability to produce antibodies in these patients protects against COVID-19, the additional dose is expected to increase protection in at least some patients, the EMA said.

Despite this seemingly good news for the group, note that Moderna shares closed down almost 4.5% on Monday.
