Microsoft: discussions taking shape around TikTok
(CercleFinance.com) - On Sunday Microsoft acknowledged that preliminary discussions are underway to acquire the US business of the Chinese short video mobile application TikTok.
In an article published on its corporate blog, the software giant says its CEO Satya Nadella has spoken with US President Donald Trump about the matter and that talks with the White House are set to continue.
At the same time, Microsoft says it intends to open discussions with ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, in the coming weeks, with the aim of completing talks by 15 September.
In its comments, Microsoft says that, alongside ByteDance, it has filed a notification procedure with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) regarding a planned acquisition of TikTok in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
