Merck: EU approves two new HIV drugs

(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission on Wednesday approved Merck's new three-drug regimen to treat HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, the US drugmaker said.

The UE executive arm has approved Delstrigo, a new once-daily fixed-dose combination tablet of doravirine, lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, for the treatment of adults with HIV-1 infection.

The Commission also approved Merck's Pifeltro, a new, once-daily on-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI), in combination with other antiretroviral medicines, for the treatment of adults with HIV-1 infection.

The approval green lights the marketing of both drugs in all 28 European Union member states, plus Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, and follows on from a positive opinion from a committee of the European Medicines Agency announced in September.
