Lockheed Martin: 'Lucy' space ship take off
(CercleFinance.com) - lockheed Martin announced at the weekend that its spacecraft "Lucy" had left Florida for space in search of new data on the formation of the solar system.
The spacecraft was designed, built and tested at the Lockheed Martin facility in Littleton. During her mission, billed as the furthest from the Sun ever, Lucy will visit a record number of asteroids in search of clues to our origins.
Lucy's four billion mile odyssey through the solar system will last 12 years and will pass through eight objects: one main belt asteroid and seven asteroids in Jupiter's orbit.
