Eli Lilly: Covid-19 treatment maybe in the pipeline
(CercleFinance.com) - The US pharmaceutical group Eli Lilly announced on Friday that it has begun developing therapeutic antibodies with the Canadian biotech company AbCellera to find a treatment for Covid-19.
In their joint press release, AbCellera said that it has screened over five million immune cells from a patient who spontaneously recovered from the coronavirus in search of the most resistant antibodies.
AbCellera says this resulted in the identification of more than 500 unique sequences of fully human antibodies, from which the biotech company now intends to extract the most effective ones to neutralize the virus.
Under the terms of the agreement, AbCellera and Lilly intend to equally share the product's development costs, after which Lilly will produce and distribute it. However, no timetable for its launch on the market was provided.
