Johnson & Johnson: submits Covid-19 vaccine for WHO approval

(CercleFinance.com) - Johnson & Johnson has submitted its single-dose Covid-19 vaccine for approval by the World Health Organization (WHO), the US drugmaker said on Friday.

The company said the filing is a requirement to supply vaccines to the WHO-backed Covax facility, a global project that covers the distribution of Covid vaccines in 190 countries, including 92 lower-income countries.

As part of an agreement signed last year with Gavi, the global vaccine alliance, J&J expects to provide up to 500 million doses of its vaccine to the Covax program through 2022.

For the record, Johnson & Johnson filed for emergency use authorization of the vaccine in the US on 4 February, and submitted a conditional marketing authorisation application in the European Union earlier this week.
