J&J: agreement with US government on Covid vaccine
(CercleFinance.com) - Johnson & Johnson announced on Wednesday that its biopharmaceutical subsidiary Janssen has reached an agreement with the US government to supply 100 million doses of its experimental Covid-19 vaccine.
J&J said the delivery agreement for the vaccine, called "Ad26.COV2.S", will take effect once it has been approved by the US FDA health authority.
The group points out that the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), an arm of the US Department of Health, has committed, in collaboration with the Department of Defense, to paying over 1 billion dollars to the project.
Johnson & Johnson notes that the contract includes an additional option for the delivery of another 200 million doses.
The Ad26.COV2.S vaccine project is currently undergoing Phase 1/2a clinical trials in healthy volunteers in the US and Belgium.
