J&J: buys remaining stake in digital surgery unit
(CercleFinance.com) - Johnson & Johnson said it will acquire the rest of medical device firm Verb Surgical following a successful strategic collaboration with Alphabet.
In 2015 J&J formed Verb Surgical, in collaboration with Verily, formerly Google Life Sciences, with the aim of developing a surgical platform based on robotics and medical device technology for operating rooms.
Johnson & Johnson said it wants to combine robotics, enhanced visualization, advanced instrumentation, machine learning, data analytics and powerful end-to-end connectivity to strengthen its digital surgery portfolio.
The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2020. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
