JPMorgan: to help clients align with Paris climate deal
(CercleFinance.com) - JPMorgan Chase said on Wednesday that it will work with clients to align its financing activities with the goals of the Paris climate deal.
The Wall Street firm is launching a "Center for Carbon Transition", a business that will provide clients in corporate and investment banking and commercial banking access to sustainability-focused financing, research and advisory solutions.
As part of its commitment, the bank will also establish intermediate emission targets for 2030 for its financing portfolio.
Regarding its own operations, JPMorgan said it plans to become carbon neutral beginning as soon as 2020, after committing to source renewable energy for 100% of its power needs this year.
The Paris agreement aims to hold the increase in global average temperature to well below two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, and ideally, to 1.5 degrees Celsius - which would require the world to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
