IBM: to work with Synopsys on new semiconductor process
(CercleFinance.com) - IBM plans to work with California-based software company Synopsys on new semiconductor process technologies, the companies said on Wednesday.
Both groups today announced their collaboration to apply design technology co-optimization (DTCO) for the 3-nanometer (nm) process node and beyond.
Process technology development beyond 7 nanometers requires the exploration of new materials and transistor architectures to achieve manufacturability, power, performance, and cost.
Synopsys' materials, lithography, process, and simulators - used to design chips - will enable evaluation of options before wafers become available.
