Intel: makes brain-inspired chip available for researchers
(CercleFinance.com) - Intel is making a brain-inspired research chip available to the research community after the system delivered "breakthrough results" in tests, the company said on Monday.
After the group was "impressed" with the early results demonstrated by the research chip Loihi in the creation of neuromorphic systems, the system will now be available to more than 60 ecosystem partners, it said.
Projects include providing adaptation capabilities to Caltech's prosthetic leg, amongst others.
The 8 million-neuron "Pohoiki Beach" system - comprising 64 Loihi research chip - applies the principles found in biological brains to computer architectures.
Loihi enables users to process information up to 1,000 times faster and 10,000 times more efficiently than CPUs for specialized applications like sparse coding, graph search and constraint-satisfaction problems.
