Intel: shares fall after data security breach
(CercleFinance.com) - Intel's shares are down by as much as 5% on Thursday, a day after the company admitted having been informed about a security breach in its processors.
The chipmaker said new security research findings are describing software analysis methods that, when used for malicious purposes, have the potential "to improperly gather sensitive data from computing devices."
In the statement, Intel denies that the flaws - caused by a "bug" - are unique to its products, citing "inaccurate media reports."
Intel said it is working with other technology companies, including AMD and ARM Holdings to develop an "industry-wide approach" to resolve the issue.
The stock is currently down around 5% at just under 43 dollars on the Dow Jones index, by far the sharpest faller in the index.
