GE: 14 MW wind power prototype goes into operation
(CercleFinance.com) - GE Renewable Energy announced today that its Haliade-X wind turbine prototype has begun operation at 14 MW in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
GE Renewable Energy thus becomes the first player in the industry to operate a turbine at this power output.
The ability to produce more energy from a single turbine means that fewer turbines need to be installed in each wind farm, GE says.
The 14MW Haliade-X will make its commercial debut at the Dogger Bank C offshore wind farm, found over 130km off the north-east coast of England, with GE Renewable Energy supplying 87 units.
