GE: Catalyst turboprop engine in first flight
(CercleFinance.com) - GE has announced that its new Catalyst turboprop engine for the business aviation market, which has been entirely designed and manufactured in Europe, has made its first flight on 30 September on a Beechcraft King Air flying testbed from Berlin.
The Catalyst engine is the first turboprop engine in aviation history to be manufactured using 3D printed components.
The first flight of Catalyst opens up a world of opportunities in the business and general aviation market with GE's launch customer at Textron Aviation, as well as in defence for applications such as drones and trainers, the group said.
