Ford: three-way partnership for more sustainable nickel
(CercleFinance.com) - Ford has announced a three-way partnership with PT Vale Indonesia Tbk and China's Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co.
, aiming to advance more sustainable nickel production in Indonesia and helping to produce more affordable electric vehicle batteries.
The three companies will hence acquire interests in the Pomalaa Block High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) Project through a definitive agreement.
The Pomalaa Block HPAL project will process ore supplied by PT Vale Indonesia to produce mixed hydroxide precipitation (MHP), a lower cost nickel product used in EV batteries with nickel rich cathodes.
Subject to regulatory approval, the project could produce up to 120 kilotonnes per year of MHP.
