Ford: cornerstone set for 'BlueOval City' project
(CercleFinance.com) - Ford announced on Friday that it has laid the cornerstone for its BlueOval City plant in Tennessee, a project that the second-largest US carmaker considers as the most ambitious in its history.
Less than a year after the investment decision was made official, the building's steel structures have been installed following the completion of earthworks, which resulted in the laying of some 370,000 tonnes of stone, a volume equivalent to 1,600 Statues of Liberty.
This "advanced" campus, which is to cover more than 15 km2 , is expected to create 6,000 new jobs when production starts in 2025.
The plant, which is the subject of a 5.6 billion dollar investment shared with South Korea's SK, will produce the next generation of F-Series electric pick-ups as well as batteries for future Ford and Lincoln models.
