Ford: investigating process for US emissions certification
(CercleFinance.com) - Ford is investigating its US fuel economy and emissions compliance process after concerns emerged from a group of employees last September, the car maker said late on Thursday.
The Dearborn, Michigan-based company said it has hired an external firm to conduct an investigation into the vehicle "road load" specifications used in testing to certify emissions and fuel economy.
"Road load" is the vehicle-specific resistance level used in testing, established through engineering models.
Ford said it was also evaluating potential changes to its "road-load" modeling process, including engineering, technical and governance components.
The first vehicle to be evaluated is the 2019 Ranger pickup truck, the group said.
