Ford: European sales up in May, but down in China

(CercleFinance.com) - Ford posted its best May sales figures in Europe since 2009, but also warned that China sales have continued to fall over the past month.

The car maker said sales rose 0.6% in its main European markets last month, reaching 118,700 vehicles, thanks to the strong performance of its SUV line (+28%), and strong sales for its EcoSport (+72%) and Kuga (+28%) models.

However, Ford said China sales fell 29% to 61,744 vehicles in May. Since the beginning of the year, its sales here have dropped 22% to 338,386 units.

Ford shares were down 0.4% in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange today.
