Facebook: account mandatory to use Messenger
(CercleFinance.com) - At the end of last week, Facebook decided to no longer allow subscription to its Messenger instant messaging system without a Facebook account.
Up to now, it was possible to open a Messenger account using just a phone number.
This decision is part of an overall strategy to merge the instant messaging services of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.
This could take place in early 2020.
Facebook pointed out that this decision does not impact users that already have Messenger accounts.
