Electronic Arts: to buy independent game studio Respawn.
(CercleFinance.com) - Electronic Arts said on Friday that it is buying leading independent game development studio Respawn for 151 million dollars in cash.
Based in Sherman Oaks (California), Respawn is the creator and developer of Titanfall franchise, a first-person shooter video game that was published by EA in 2014.
Electronic Arts said it will pay up to 164 million dollars in long-term equity in the form of restricted stock units to employees, which will vest over four years.
In addition, EA may be required to pay additional variable cash consideration relating to the development of future titles, amounting to a maximum of 140 million dollars.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2017.
