eBay: buys automotive platform in Australia

(CercleFinance.com) - eBay said on Friday that it has acquired the owner of several automotive platforms in Australia, which it intends to integrate into its free classifieds ad unit Gumtree.

eBay has agreed to buy Cox Automotive, which owns CarsGuide.com.au and Autotrader.com.au, two websites that let clients review, buy and sell cars in Australia.

The group intends to amalgamate Autotrader.com.au, which has about 2,300 dealers and approximately 90,000 listings, and Gumtree, which has approximately 1,800 dealers and about 80,000 listings, to provide a compelling car-buying offering.

The move comes as part of eBay's verticalization strategy in the automotive market, following the acquisition of Motors.co.uk in the UK earlier this year.
