Apple: to build new campus in Austin, Texas

(CercleFinance.com) - Apple plans to invest 1 billion dollars to build a new campus in Austin, Texas, the California-based tech company said late on Wednesday.

The 133-acre campus will be located less than a mile from its existing facilities and will initially accommodate 5,000 additional employees, with a capacity to grow to 15,000.

The plant is expected to make Apple the biggest private employer in Austin.

The campus will include functions such as engineering, R&D, operations, finance, sales and customer support. Its workspaces will be entirely powered by renewable energy.

On Wednesday Apple also announced plans to establish new sites in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City, and expand in cities such as Pittsburgh, New York and Boulder over the next three years.
