Apple: invests in carbon-free aluminium smelting
(CercleFinance.com) - Today Apple confirms that it forms part of the investors in the joint-venture formed by Rio Tinto and Alcoa.
These two latter companies plan to commercialise, under the name of Elysis, a new technology to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from the aluminium smelting process.
“Aluminium is a key material in many of Apple's most popular products, and for more than 130 years, it's been produced the same way. That is, until now”, announces the Cupertino-based firm.
“Aluminium giants Alcoa Corporation and Rio Tinto Aluminium today announced a joint venture to commercialise patented technology that eliminates direct greenhouse gas emissions from the traditional smelting process [...]. This is a revolutionary advancement in the manufacturing of one of the world's most widely used metals” says Apple.
