During an investor update call this morning, the credit card company said that given the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the duration, magnitude and geographic reach of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not able to forecast its future financial results beyond the first quarter at this time.
However, company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Squeri stressed that the financial services group has a long track record of "navigating through uncertain economic periods."
Amex shares were down 1.4% on the New York Stock Exchange this morning.
