Amazon: creates new division against counterfeiting
(CercleFinance.com) - Amazon announced on Wednesday that it is creating a new unit specialising in criminal counterfeit goods.
While the e-commerce giant ensures that 99.9% of the products viewed by its customers are not reported as counterfeit goods, the group said it suspended over six million ads that were deemed suspicious last year and has suspended more than 2.5 million suspicious seller accounts.
Amazon, which spent 500 million dollars against counterfeiting last year, says it already employs 8,000 people to fight fraud.
The new team will include former federal prosecutors, experienced detectives and programmers specialising in data analysis.
They will have the task of bringing counterfeiters to justice.
