Alphabet: Google buys Irish startup Pointy
(CercleFinance.com) - Alphabet's Google has entered into an agreement to acquire Pointy, an Irish startup that helps retailers put their product inventory online.
Thanks to the so-called "Pointy Box" - that connects between a barcode scanner and a cash register - the Dublin-based Pointy helps small merchants to appear in the search results of people who did Google searches for certain products.
"Since we introduced this functionality a few years ago, Pointy has been one of our key partners, helping thousands of local merchants display this data within Google," Google said.
The deal - whose financial details were not disclosed - is expected to close in the coming weeks.
