Alphabet: Google co-founders give up operational roles
(CercleFinance.com) - Google co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, have decided to give up their roles as CEO and President of parent company Alphabet, the two executives said late on Tuesday.
The move means that Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, will become CEO of both Google and Alphabet, effective immediately.
There is "no better person to lead Google and Alphabet into the future," Page and Brin said in a letter to employees.
Born in Chennai, India, Pichai joined Google in 2004 and helped lead the development of the Internet browser Google Chrome.
Like Page and Brin, he studied at Stanford University.
Page and Brin have said that they plan to remain Alphabet board members.
