AMD: in talks to buy Xilinx?
(CercleFinance.com) - Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is said to be in talks to buy Xilinx in a transaction that would be valued at over 30 billion dollars, according to Wedbush, citing an article from the Wall Street Journal.
The broker specifies that "negotiations could be finalised as soon as this week, per the report, though the Journal cautioned that it is not certain the two companies will agree to terms", and that it is "initially less enthusiastic about this rumoured acquisition".
Whilst it envisages "some longer-term operational and sales synergies", Wedbush said that it would be "surprised if the transaction results in immediate substantial accretion" and doesn't see Xilinx filling an obvious technology gap for AMD.
