SAS: passenger traffic dives 89% in February

(CercleFinance.com) - On Friday SAS reported an 89% drop in passenger traffic in February, still suffering from the effects of the global health crisis.

The Scandinavian airline, which says it only carried 225,000 passengers last month compared with over two million in February 2020, notes that its load factor also fell, dropping over 39 points to 25.8%.

Travel restrictions continue to weigh on demand, which are leading to adjustments to the airline's offer in terms of destinations and the number of flights, it said.

SAS stresses, however, that strong demand for cargo traffic enabled it to maintain some of its flights last month.

Major European airlines have all reported a sharp drop in passenger traffic in the past months, a sign that the pandemic is still weighing on demand.

Just after midday, SAS shares were up 1.7% while the STOXX Europe 600 Travel & Leisure sector index was down 1.5%.
