Alfa Laval: shares climb after fourth-quarter results
(CercleFinance.com) - Shares in Alfa Laval rose on Tuesday after the Swedish engineering group posted solid fourth-quarter earnings.
Adjusted Ebita - the company's standard measure of profitability - was up 8% at 1.61 billion Swedish kronor, versus 1.49 billion Swedish kronor a year ago.
At 10.1 billion euros, the Lund-based firm saw fourth-quarter sales rise by 5% excluding currency effects.
In its statement, Alfa Laval pointed out a 16% sequential increase in its order intake, which was "somewhat higher than expected."
After the report, analysts at UBS said these fourth-quarter figures were "mostly impressive".
The broker points out that the order beat was driven by marine and food, and also highlights strong core margins.
Despite this strong year-end performance, Alfa Laval said it expects that demand in the first quarter 2018 will be "somewhat lower than in the fourth quarter."
Nevertheless, the shares, which are listed on the Nasdaq Nordic market, were up 3.1% at 207 Swedish kronor in morning trading today.
