Ericsson: joins automotive big data consortium.
(CercleFinance.com) - Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson is in a consortium formed by Toyota so as to develop network and computing infrastructure for automotive big data.
The consortium will build an ecosystem for connected cars to support emerging services such as smart driving, map creation with real-time data and driving assistance based on cloud computing, the partners said.
Japanese auto parts maker Denso, US chipmaker Intel, and Japanese mobile carrier NTT Docomo have also joinded the consortium.
It is estimated that the data volume between vehicles and the cloud in 2025 will be approximately 10,000 times larger than the present volume.
