Norsk Hydro: starts pilot energy efficient plant
(CercleFinance.com) - Norwegian aluminium producer Norsk Hydro said on Wednesday that it has started a pilot plant which aims to industrialise a new energy-efficient technology.
Hydro said all 60 electrolysis cells are now in operation at the Karmoy technology pilot, in southwestern Norway, which is intended to have the lowest CO2 footprint and will use 15% less energy compared to the world average in aluminium production.
The total capex for the technology pilot amounts to 4.3 billion Norwegian kronor (about 450 million euros), helped by a contribution of 1.6 billion Norwegian kronor from Norway's green energy incubator Enova, Hydro said.
