Statoil: small discovery of hydrocarbons in the Barents Sea.
(CercleFinance.com) - This morning, Statoil, the Norwegian oil major, and its partners have reported a "small" discovery of offshore gas in the Barents Sea.
The exploration well in question also revealed the presence of oil.
In detail, the discovery took place under the Gemini North license, which is roughly between the northern coast of Norway and the Svalbard (or Spitzberg) archipelago. Statoil, the operator, holds 55% of Gemini North, alongside the Austrian group OMV (25%) and another Norwegian company, Petoro (20%).
This is the third hydrocarbon discovery that has been made since the beginning of Statoil's 2017 exploration campaign in the Barents Sea after those of Kayak and Blamann, which were respectively announced on 3 and 17 July.
