Telenor: launches 5G pilot test near Oslo
(CercleFinance.com) - Norwegian telecoms firm Telenor has launched the first 5G pilot in Scandinavia, kicking off tests on the superfast fifth generation mobile network in the city of Kongsberg, near Oslo.
Telenor's pilot will offer five families the possibility of testing broadband and TV services via 5G in their homes until the summer of 2019, before expanding the project to more locations and users next year.
Several Norwegian businesses will also be involved, the group said.
In its statement, Telenor said that it is preparing for the commercial roll-out of 5G in 2020.
According to speed tests by Ookla, Telenor currently has the fastest mobile network in the world.
