Norsk Hydro: logistics issues due to situation in Qatar.
(CercleFinance.com) - Norwegian aluminium producer Norsk Hydro said its Qatari joint venture Qatalum is now working to solve logistics issues arising from recent tensions in the Middle-East.
As the Jebel Ali port in UAE is now closed for all Qatari shipments, Qatalum is currently trying to find alternative routes to enable it to continue to serve its clients.
The troubles come after Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt all decided to cut off transportation links and have severed diplomatic ties with Qatar, which they accuse of backing terrorism.
Qatalum is a joint venture between Hydro and Qatar Petroleum, and produces over 600,000 tonnes of primary aluminum p.a., which it ships to clients in Asia, Europe and the US.
