Airbus: space technology arrives on Mars
(CercleFinance.com) - With NASA's Perseverance rover reaching Mars on Thursday, Airbus has said that many of its technologies will be on board.
The rover carries the MEDA weather station developed by Airbus, which will measure wind speed and direction, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, ground and air temperatures, solar radiation and also the nature of suspended dust.
All data will be sent to Earth via the High Gain Antenna System (HGAS) also designed and built by Airbus.
In addition to searching for signs or traces of past life (bio-signs), the mission will also test technologies that will pave the way for future human exploration of Mars, such as the production of oxygen from carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, or the first flight of a small helicopter to another planet, Airbus adds.
