Airbus: expands its SpaceDataHighway constellation
(CercleFinance.com) - The EDRS-C relay satellite, the second node of Airbus' SpaceDataHighway constellation, is now operational after all commissioning tests were completed on 15 July 2020.
Launched in August 2019, it has successfully completed its tests and established a laser communication link with the Sentinel Earth Observation satellites of the Copernicus program.
EDRS-C doubles the transmission capacity of the constellation, which can now simultaneously relay data from two satellites, it said.
By 2030, around 15 satellites are expected to use the very high-speed connectivity of the SpaceDataHighway system.
