Airbus: new H145 helicopter lands on top of Andes

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus today announces that the latest version of the H145 helicopter has landed on Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Southern Hemisphere, peaking at 6,962 metres.

This is the first time that a twin-engine helicopter has landed at this altitude.

After a climb of 15 minutes, the helicopter landed on the mountain's summit, where the outside temperature was -22° C. The helicopter was flown by Alexander Neuhaus, experimental test pilot, who was accompanied by Antoine van Gent, experimental flight test engineer.

"The handling qualities of the new H145 are excellent and combined with Helionix and its 4 axis-autopilot, we reached the summit safely," said Alexander Neuhaus, experimental test pilot at Airbus Helicopters.
