Airbus: new life support system delivered for ISS
(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has delivered an advanced life support system called the ACLS (Advanced Closed Loop System), which purifies air and produces oxygen for the International Space Station (ISS).
Also producing water, as a by-product, the ACLS was first developed for the European Space Agency (ESA) and is set for use on the ISS from this summer.
It extracts carbon dioxide from the cabin and, using hydrogen obtained from splitting water molecules, converts it to methane and water. Oxygen is then produced from this water using electrolysis, enhancing overall system efficiency and reducing the need for supplies from Earth.
