Airbus: sales forecasts in Asia-Pacific region

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has announced that in 2017 it further strengthened its leading position in the Asia-Pacific market by delivering 367 new aircraft to 50 companies in the region, either directly to airlines or via leasing companies.

This represents more than half of Airbus' global deliveries worldwide (718 aircraft) over the year, reflecting this region's importance for the group. Deliveries in the region included nearly 100 new wide-body aircraft and marked the arrival of the A350 XWB over the long term with three new Asian operators.

In 2017, Airbus won 65% of the market's new business with 100 new aircraft orders from 7 clients. This brings Airbus' backlog in the region to over 2,000 aircraft, which represents a third of the group's total backlog.

According to Airbus' forecasts, the Asia-Pacific region will see a 5.6% annual increase in passenger traffic, which will require approximately 14,450 new aircraft over the forecast period. This represents over 40% of global demand for nearly 35,000 aircraft over the next 20 years.
