STMicro: teams up with MACOM for GaN wafers
(CercleFinance.com) - MACOM Technology Solutions and STMicroelectronics have announced an agreement for the development of gallium nitride (GaN) wafers made by ST for MACOM, which will use them in a wide range of RF Applications.
The agreement also gives ST the right to manufacture and sell its own silicon GaN products in RF markets, apart from mobile telephony, wireless base stations and related commercial telecommunications infrastructure applications.
Both companies have been working together for several years to accelerate the production of silicon GaN wafers in ST's CMOS production plant. According to the current plan, the first samples should be manufactured by ST in 2018.
