Unilever: no longer interested in Halo Top

(CercleFinance.com) - According to The New York Post, Unilever almost bought the American ice cream company Halo Top.

Then it suddenly changed its mind and backed down, with the takeover now out of the question. This would have been for a sum of nearly two billion dollars.

And yet the Dutch consumer goods giant, which owns the Ben & Jerry's and Breyers brands, was on the verge of completing the due diligence. Then it appears to have stopped in its tracks the NY Post says, without anyone knowing why.

The niche brand, Halo Top is positioned on ice cream that is high in protein but low in calories, particularly thanks to the replacement of sugar by stevia. The group benefits from strong growth and in September, Halo Top boasted higher sales volumes in US stores than both Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs (Nestlé).
