Unilever: buys Brazilian organic food group Mae Terra.

(CercleFinance.com) - Consumer goods giant Unilever agreed to buy Brazilian organic food business Mae Terra as part of its strategy to expand into new market categories.

Founded in 1979, Mae Terra has over 120 products, ranging from cookies to snacks. While the terms of the deal have not been disclosed, the firm posts over 30% growth per year, Unilever said.

"Unilever has clearly stepped up the pace of acquisitions since the failed Kraft takeover," analysts at Bryan Garnier commented this morning.

The brokerage firm points out that the company plans to spend between 1 billion and 3 billion euros per year on acquisitions.

Brazil is the fifth largest market in the world for healthy food and beverages.
