Toyota: to stop making vehicles in St. Petersburg
(CercleFinance.com) - Toyota today announced that it will cease vehicle production at its St.
Petersburg, Russia plant.
It said that on 4 March it had to suspend manufacturing operations at our St. Petersburg plant due to an interruption in the supply of key materials and parts. Since then, it has been closely monitoring the situation and assessing the future sustainability of our operations in Russia, adding that it had retained its entire workforce to ensure the plant would be ready to restart if circumstances allowed.
However, after six months, it has not been able to resume normal operations and see no indication that we will be able to restart in the future.
The manufacturer adds that its Moscow operations need to be optimised and restructured, with the clear objective of maintaining an efficient organisation to continue supporting the retail network in the country.
